As part of a high street rescue scheme and grant of £100,000 by shopping guru, Mary Portas, youth group Tiber enlisted Hardscape to help revamp a deprived street in Liverpool at Tiber Square. Backed by Liverpool Council, Tiber worked with BCA Landscape Architects of Liverpool, contractors Lanes Landscapes Ltd and Hardscape to develop a 5.5 acre piece of land into a community arts, sports and education facility in the heart of Toxteth.
Hardscape supplied landscaping advice and materials to help transform the public space into a bright and welcoming area. Wherever possible, Hardscape supplies leftover materials from completed projects to help local communities and good causes, at a heavily reduced price. Group members pitched in and laid down some of the paving stones to proudly make their mark.
The organisation involves young people aged 14-18 years old to encourage them to become positive role models in the community, offering training opportunities, and involvement in entrepreneurial projects and leadership programs. To fulfil the vision, the group works closely with local residents, businesses, volunteers and community organisations. The project will help celebrate the achievements of such youth groups across Liverpool and other cities.
Materials used in the project included granite setts and paving made up of Kobra, Moon Black, New Rustenburg, Royal White, Crystal Black, Mist, Yellow Rock and Ceasar White. To finish off the contemporary look, Royal White granite sawn and bush-hammered kerbs were also installed.
