St. John's Precinct, Blackpool
The areas surrounding St John’s Church in the heart of Blackpool town centre had been starved of investment, becoming run-down and neglected. However, identified as a key element in the redevelopment of Blackpool, this project has transformed the resort’s most prominent public square through functional and visual improvements.
The project aimed to reflect Blackpool’s fun image while maintaining the heritage feel of the area. It also wanted to attract more visitors and increase the loiter time of shoppers to encourage greater private sector investment. A new pedestrian cafe area and flexible events space also enhances the resort offer. The end result is a shared space that helps rejuvenate a tired but critical area of Blackpool.
The regeneration work begun here has already started to spread from the site and much of the town is now being revitalised under the town’s masterplan.
