Limestone

Differing from Sandstones in that they essentially comprise of carbonates this is another traditionally used architectural stone.

Being a sedimentary rock the structure of the stone often contains shell or other fossil fragments. Over the years this has encouraged it’s use in decorative flooring or cladding panels.

A distinction is clear between this and Marble in geological terms due to the latter having undergone some metamorphic event that has changed the structure of the stone. Historically however many limestone’s have been termed Marbles.
