Hardscape have been involved with the design and supply of a number of schemes where natural stone paving units have been used within a flexible construction. Though this is not a new development the exciting innovation on these schemes was the introduction of plastic spacers which were bonded to the paving units allowing for them to be laid as you would a concrete block or clay paver. This system allows the contractor to ensure that the joint width is constant which aids with the achievement of straight lines and joints, though the paving units are generally laid to a string line. The spacers are to the nominal width required between 2 - 5mm to allow the ingress of jointing sand to fill the joints which also aids the interlock of the paving units. In essence a natural stone nibbed product which complies with the specifications as laid out in BS 7533 - Pavements constructed with clay, natural stone or concrete pavers - sections 4, 7 and 10.
