The £28 million Belfast Streets Ahead initivative by the Department for Social Development (DSD) received a Highly Commended Award in the Urban Design and Masterplanning category at the 2012 Landscape Institute Awards ceremony held at the Congress Centre in central London on Thursday 29th November. Belfast Streets Ahead comprises the regeneration of three areas of Belfast’s city centre which has become a key part of the city’s economic, social and environmental revival.

The Belfast Streets Ahead project has ephpcbL45Y5448mbraced masterplanning, public realm design and stakeholder engagement, creating a catalyst for change in the city centre.

The overall objective of the scheme was to strengthen Belfast as a premier regional shopping destination of high quality in a safe, urban environment which would attract employees, investors, residents and tourists placing Belfast in the competitive arena against other European cities. Hardscape supplied Royal White, Pink Pearl and Darton granite setts and slabs to the project which also picked up a RICS Awards Grand Final earlier on in the month.
