After achieving specification to provide materials for the Preston 'Civitas' scheme. Hardscape's North West Sales Manager, Anthony Collins, was asked to provide design consultation and to supply materials for the Avenham Road artwork project. With the design work provided by Nigel Roberts (Principle Architect, Preston City Council), Van Nong (Graphic Design specialist, based in Skipton) and with participation of local residents and youth groups, Hardscape set to deliver a project to commemorate Stephen Simpson’s Gold Thread Works in Avenham Road, Preston. The company used to produce very fine gold and silver wire embroidery for the Military, Royal Livery, Cruise Lines and the Freemasons all made at the factory until its closure in 1991. Hardscape provided waterjet-cut Royal White and Crystal Black granite paving with a bespoke 'bobbin' bollard made from Polished Royal White and hand carved Yellow Rock granite together with an acid-etched stainless steel plaque creating an overall striking piece of public artwork for the town.
