Columns of names remembered at new Nelson war memorial

News A new war memorial has taken pride of place in the heart of Nelson after 22 years of waiting. The new cenotaph, situated outside the library in the heart of the current phase of Nelson's regeneration, Memorial and Market Square will receive Royal assent in November. The Duke of Kent will be present at the first Armistice Day remembrance service for the Nelson monument in November. Hardscape consulted on design and supplied the Yorkstone including sand blasted lettering to the memorial designed by Dave Palmer (DP Structures) on behalf of Pendle Borough Council. Along with the stone for the new memorial Hardscape is currently supplying over 2000m2 of new Yorkstone and Granite to the area of the new cenotaph. The opaque cenotaph bears the names of 1,390 men who were killed, from South Africa, through two World Wars, National Service and Northern Ireland, to the present day. Hundreds gathered to see the monument unveiled and dedicated by the Rev Major John Halllows, including representatives from all the armed services, police, fire brigade and air, sea and army cadets.
